Where to start

The informal assessment session

If you're not sure where to start, or you want an expert's view of what your child needs, the informal assessment session is the right first step. No referral required.

What to expect

An informal assessment session is an observational meeting with a senior therapist. It's not a formal diagnostic procedure, and it doesn't produce a clinical diagnosis. It produces something more immediately useful: a clear, human-readable summary of what the therapist observed, and what kinds of support might help your child.

The session is intended to be calm and low-pressure for your child. You're welcome to stay with them throughout.

How the session works

  1. Reach out

A parent or guardian calls NeuroLux or visits the campus in person. No referral is required for an initial enquiry.

  2. A warm welcome

Reception welcomes your family, answers any questions, and takes a few brief registration details — name, contact, and what brings you in.

  3. Assessment with a senior therapist

A senior therapist meets with your child and your family. This is an informal, observational session — not a formal diagnostic procedure.

  4. A summary you can take home

Your family receives an informal printed assessment summary. It describes what the therapist observed and what kinds of support might help.

  5. Your parent portal, if you use it

Families registered on the NeuroLux parent app can also view the summary there — at their convenience, with full control over who sees it.

What the session is not

The informal assessment is not a formal diagnostic assessment. It does not produce a diagnosis of autism or any other condition. If you are seeking a formal assessment — such as an ADOS — we can speak with you about what that involves and what our plans are for offering it. At the moment, ADOS is listed as coming soon at our campus.

We won't use your child's session to make claims we can't support. The summary you receive will be honest about what was observed and what is uncertain.

Your assessment summary in the parent app

If your family is registered on the NeuroLux parent app, the assessment summary can also be viewed there — privately, at your convenience. You choose who sees it. The campus doesn't share it with schools, clinics, or third parties without your consent.
